To meet these challenges, a sophisticated fire detection and alarm system, including a network of addressable control panels, beam detection, air sampling systems and almost 900 devices, was provided by MFS.
The system caters for the variations between trading and non-trading conditions. A simple key switch control allows the user to easily change between modes.
General detection is via Apollo XP95 optical smoke detectors which have been utilised extensively throughout the store. These are supported by aspirating detection within air handling ducts; MFS made full use of the high technology and flexibility offered the by the Air Sense HSSD2 system for this. A combination of aspirating detection and fire beam detectors cover the atrium areas, the self adjusting technology of the Fire Beam Company products being ideal for this area with its limited accessibility
In addition, MFS provided an extensive store PA system supplied by Baldwin Boxall, with speakers from Penton. The system enables messages to be broadcast throughout the store or in selected zones only. All recorded messages are in Welsh and English and a series of timed messages have been programmed to play as required.
With a store opening date of 24 September, MFS were proud to be part of the team that brought the project to a successful conclusion, handing over the detection and alarm system, and PA system in mid August; just in time for the arrival of 350,000 product lines.
